We are looking for a new play worker for our popular after school club. The club is open from 3.20pm – 6pm during term time and is an integral part of the care and support The Whartons provide for our pupils and their families. We pride ourselves on creating a ‘home from home’ environment where all children thrive. Due to the popularity of our club and expanding numbers we would like to add to our ever-growing team of dedicated staff.

We have a vacancy available for up to 15 hours 50 minutes per week. The hours of work will be between 2.50pm – 6pm, Monday to Friday – term time only. Flexibility can be available for the right candidate and could be split between applicants. Please note on the application form your available days.

The ideal candidate would be qualified in childcare or be willing to work towards qualifications. Most importantly though, we are looking for someone who enjoys working with children and who is cheerful, friendly and able to use their initiative.

The duties will include:

· leading games and crafts with children of differing ages and interests;

· helping with basic food preparation;

· organising resources;

· following all necessary policies and procedures;

· carrying out basic first aid.

Appropriate training and support will be provided to the successful candidate.

The Role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable Playworker to join our busy team. You will be responsible for ensuring our children have a fantastic time while staying safe and well-cared for.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create a fun environment: Help facilitate a wide range of activities, from high-energy sports and outdoor games to creative arts, crafts, and quiet reading corners.
  • Supervision: Maintain a safe and inclusive environment through active supervision and "eyes-on" play.
  • Snack Time: Help prepare and serve healthy, delicious snacks, ensuring all dietary and allergy needs are met.
  • Build Connections: Act as a positive role model, building great relationships with children and providing updates to parents at pick-up.
  • Team Support: Assist with the daily setup of equipment to keep our space inviting and tidy.
  • Make sure everyone is safe – safeguarding our children is essential and we need to ensure we keep accurate records and know basic first aid (training in this is provided).

Essential Attributes

  • You must have a "can-do" attitude and a genuine passion for working with children.
  • Energy & Creativity: You can think on your feet and enjoy crafts/ arts / games
  • Reliability: You are punctual, reliable and can remain calm when the club is at its busiest.
  • Communication: You are a natural at talking to children, colleagues, and parents.
  • Safeguarding: A commitment to the safety and welfare of children is essential (successful candidates must pass an Enhanced DBS check).
  • Initiative – you are able to pre-empt the needs of the club.

Desirable Attributes

  • A Level 2 or 3 Childcare or Playwork qualification.
  • A current Paediatric First Aid certificate.
  • Experience working in a busy school or holiday club setting.
