Avangrid Utility Meter Technician
About the position
Grid One Solutions is seeking a full-time Utility Meter Technician to join our organization supporting a project with Avangrid in NYSEG service area. As a Utility Meter Technician, you will perform the change out of existing electric meters, install module upgrades to gas meters, and assume responsibility for the safe operation of company vehicle, equipment, and tools. Perform up to standards within time frames outlined by the Field Supervisor and Project Manager. In addition, you will learn how to utilize the computer system to plan and complete your daily work.
Responsibilities
- Perform change out of existing electric utility meters and installation of module upgrades to gas meters.
- Demonstrate safe, high-quality work practices in a team atmosphere.
- Perform up to standards within time frames outlined by Field Supervisor and Project Manager.
- Identify and report to management all hazardous working conditions.
- Commitment to customer service and responding to the needs of internal and external customers in a professional manner.
- Ability to travel Monday through Friday in the NYSEG service areas.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work with little supervision.
- Ability to walk between 6 to 8 miles per day.
- Ability to read meters and willingness to learn to operate new equipment and implement new procedures.
- Strong directional skills: the ability to read and understand maps via GPS instruments and websites.
- Computer and smartphone literate.
- Independently manage time and workload to meet deadlines.
Nice-to-haves
- Utility meter installation and utility meter reading experience preferred.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
- Mechanical and/or electrical experience preferred.
- Experience in the use of hand and power tools.
