Experienced Fine Gardener
Preston Earth is hiring an Experienced Fine Gardener with 3–5 years of professional gardening, horticulture, or related field experience.
This role is for someone who works confidently and independently in gardens, values craft and efficiency, and also collaborates well within a team. We are looking for a skilled gardener who is willing to share knowledge, contribute to a strong crew culture, and continue developing professionally.
As experience and trust grow, there is opportunity to move into greater responsibility and leadership over time.
Preston Earth is a small, values-driven garden company creating and maintaining environmentally sustainable, abundant, and beautiful perennial and vegetable gardens in the Roaring Fork Valley. Our work is rooted in ecology, craft, and long-term care.

Responsibilities
- Work both independently and collaboratively within a small crew
- Share knowledge and support skill development among teammates
- Maintaining perennial, ornamental, and edible gardens to a high horticultural standard
- Planting, transplanting, weeding, pruning, and seasonal garden care
- Soil preparation and amendment
- Observing plant health and responding thoughtfully
- Monitoring irrigation and flagging issues
- Supporting daily workflow and contributing to a steady, productive workday
- Communicating clearly with crew leads and teammates
- This position requires strong hands-on skill and the ability to move efficiently without sacrificing quality.
Ideal Candidate
- 3–5 years of professional gardening, horticulture, or farming experience
- Strong plant knowledge and pruning fundamentals
- Comfortable working independently while also contributing positively to a team
- Willing to share plant knowledge and learn from others
- Interested in growing into greater responsibility over time
- Able to balance care, quality, and efficiency
- Comfortable with hard, physical work and working in all weather conditions
- Reliable, communicative, and team-oriented
- Takes initiative but works well within a team structure
- Experience with native, edible, and ornamental plant systems is highly valued. Backgrounds in fine gardening, nursery work, or small-scale farming are especially welcome.
- You take pride in clean beds, properly set plants, and thoughtful pruning. You notice details and finish tasks fully.
Work Environment
This position requires physical stamina, including heavy lifting and repetitive motion. We work outdoors in varied mountain weather. We value professionalism, accountability, and contributing positively to a supportive, skilled team.
Compensation:
$28.00 – $30.00 per hour, based on experience.
Seasonal position running from the last week of March through the first week of November.
There is real potential for advancement into greater responsibility and leadership as skills and trust develop.
Pay: $28.00 - $30.00 per hour
