WSP is currently initiating a search for a Health and Safety Advisor. The candidate may work out of any WSP US office.

  • Participate and instill a culture of caring where leaders and team members consistently help each other thrive.
  • Support both the Business Line’s VP of Health and Safety and the Business Line’s Leadership in all aspects of health and safety management.
  • Understand and communicate global and regional HSEQ requirements to the leadership team and implement at all relevant levels of the business.
  • Conduct project visits and audits at site locations within the Business Line.
  • Deliver Health and Safety trainings per company and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage all aspects of Health and Safety initiatives within the designated business line.
  • Perform thorough incident investigations to identify and implement corrective actions necessary to prevent future incidents.
  • Conduct thorough root cause analysis of incidents to identify appropriate organizational solutions/actions.
  • Manage and communicate a clear vision of the project’s health and safety objectives and motivate the project team to achieve the desired outcomes.
  • Effectively plan and coordinate activities according to project safety planning.
  • Analyze risks, establish project contingency plans, and identify trigger events and responsibility for initiating mitigation actions.
  • Track, analyze, and report on actual performance against the plan.
  • Work collaboratively with HSEQ team across the business, Operations, and relevant shared services to improve the HSEQ programs.
  • Provide coaching and expertise in Health and Safety to the Business line, guiding them in the implementation of their Project Safety Plan.
  • Support the HSEQ Leadership team in various tasks as required.
  • Ensure integration of the HSEQ Vision, Mission, and goals.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous learning within the business line.
  • Travel to project sites and offices of at least 30%.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in related discipline (Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, Environment).
  • 5-7 years of experience in Health and Safety profession, preferably in the fields of construction management and inspection, including transportation, road construction, bridge inspection, and infrastructure.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Health and Safety legislation, occupational Health and Safety compliance requirements, regulatory structure of OSHA and State plans, specifically OSHA Standard for Construction, DOT, and FRA regulations.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to conduct risk assessments and data analysis.
  • Proficiency in Health and Safety software tools and Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, Environment (preferred).
  • Designation as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or other similar certification will be considered an asset (preferred).

Compensation

  • Expected Salary (all locations): $74,200.00 - $129,800.00
  • Expected Salary (Colorado only): $74,200.00 - $121,770.00
