Horizontal Cable Technician- DFW Airport

Position Summary

Under the general direction from the Project Superintendent and/or Lead Technician will serve as professional Technician 1. The position requires the Technician 1 to measure, cut, join, and install wires, panels, and work area outlets. Technician 1 supports the work of low voltage infrastructure in construction and renovation jobs, primarily by running cable through ductwork and behind walls and run cable through conduit, tray, and hook pathways. This position requires working knowledge of electricity, ductwork, and cable installation for all elements for a project. This position also requires the knowledge to analyze, interpret and make deductions from varying facts or circumstances. A Technician 1 should also handle responsibilities related to pushing and pulling cables for low voltage systems through floors, walls, and ceilings. Working under direct supervision also perform several other tasks, such as holding or supplying materials, tools and equipment, and cleaning the work area and equipment. A Technician 1 may also be called a cable puller or helper.

Principal Accountabilities - This position requires daily, weekly and monthly responsibilities that must be completed in a timely manner.

  • Installation of highly technical equipment throughout the United States.
  • Perform preventive, maintenance and troubleshooting for clients.
  • Ensures safety practices are followed.
  • Proactively supports continuous improvement activities on site.
  • Works in a team environment and also individually.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively both to the client and supervisor.
  • Communication is needed for scheduling service, preventative maintenance and installations.
  • Must provide technical and physical assistance with various tasks such as pulling, climbing, reaching, crawling, kneeling and feeling.

Education, Experience, and Job Requirements - This position requires at least the following minimum requirements:

  • GED or High School equivalent
  • An AA degree and/or 2-3 years’ experience of industrial equipment troubleshooting, maintenance or equivalent preferred.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment. Required valid automobile insurance.
  • Strong analytical abilities are necessary to understand schematics, test procedures and equipment manuals.
  • This position requires strong identification of defective component before failure of equipment.
  • This position must have excellent customer services skills; follow up on issues, strong work ethic and collaborative team skills.
  • Both English and Spanish speaking skills are highly preferred
  • Necessity to have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Essential ability to work with others to resolve issues and maintain composure in an environment of changing priorities.
  • Shows excellent teamwork experiences, working in a team orientated, collaborative environment.
  • Exceptional customer service orientation and ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Exhibits basic math skills.
  • Knowledge of all company policies and procedures.
  • Work on a timetable, follow instructions, respond to management direction and solicit feedback to improve performance.
  • Ability to work over 8 hours a day, weekends and holidays.
  • May be required to work at several locations and should be able to relocate to each new work site.
  • Ability to work with computer software, calculators, and telephone.

Typical Physical and Mental Demands -

The position may require long hours, handle conflicts, and make decisions under pressure and in inclement weather situations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must stand, walk, use hands and fingers to, handle, feel or operate tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must climb a ladder while lifting up to 50 pounds, sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear and smell. The employee must have specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
