We are hiring a Nesting Operator

Location: Newburn site, NE15 8SG
Shift Pattern: Days initially then Continental 12‑hour shifts
Training: Full training provided

About the Role

We are looking for a reliable and motivated Nesting Operator to join our production team. You will be responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining nesting machinery to produce high‑quality packaging in line with customer specifications, while ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency at all times.

Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate the nesting machine in line with works orders and customer specifications
  • Obtain and prepare all required materials, including glue, cut/creased cartons, parts, consumables, and works tickets
  • Set and adjust machine parameters, including feeder, delivery, and carton transfer, to achieve the highest quality output
  • Prepare samples for approval and maintain consistent quality throughout production runs
  • Carry out line clearance and full clean-downs in line with SOPs after each order
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance in accordance with the monthly maintenance plan, including adjustments and replacement of feed belts, blades, and other components
  • Report any machine faults, breakdowns, or quality issues immediately
  • Accurately complete all production, quality, and safety documentation, including guard checks
  • Monitor carton quality throughout the job, checking colour, glue application, alignment, pressure marks, and overall finish
  • Ensure compliance with PS9000 and BRC/IoP standards for quality, hygiene, housekeeping, and in‑process inspection
  • Maintain full compliance with HSE health and safety requirements at all times
  • Direct and supervise other team members working on the nesting machines, ensuring their safety at all times
  • Train and support new or existing team members, ensuring understanding of machine controls and standard operating procedures
  • Carry out effective shift handovers, ensuring clear communication of instructions and issues
  • Provide cover for holidays and sickness as required
  • Maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, management, customers, and third‑party visitors

Working Hours

  • Initial shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 4:00pm (first 8 weeks)
  • Thereafter: Continental 12‑hour shift pattern

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in a manufacturing or machine‑operating environment (preferred but not essential)
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
  • A safety‑focused approach to work
  • Ability to follow procedures and complete documentation accurately
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills
