JOB FAMILY SUMMARY PURPOSE :
The Testing and Commissioning Renewable Specialist supports the Manager of Renewable Generation by leading the commissioning of utility‑scale solar and BESS projects. This role ensures systems operate safely, meet technical requirements, and comply with regulatory standards while coordinating with internal teams, contractors, and stakeholders.
EDUCATION :
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience . Field experience is preferred.
EXPERIENCE :
- 5 years or more experience required.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Experience in utility-scale solar and battery commissioning or electrical work.
Strong knowledge of SCADA integration systems.
Expertise in installation and maintenance of PV/BESS electrical components (PCS, DC collections, MPT, Metering, Relays, etc.).
Familiarity with ISO 9001, IEC, IEEE, and NEC standards.
Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
Experience with advanced energy storage technologies and hybrid renewable systems.
Proficiency in commissioning software tools and reporting platforms.
Knowledge of regulatory compliance processes and grid interconnection standards.
Ability to interpret technical drawings and commissioning plans.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Lead and support commissioning and testing activities for PV and BESS projects.
Coordinate with internal teams, subcontractors, and stakeholders to deliver high-quality, reliable solutions.
Manage commissioning scopes across multiple projects, ensuring adherence to safety procedures and project timelines.
Maintain commissioning logs, equipment checklists, and documentation.
Collaborate with third-party testers to ensure regulatory compliance and acceptance documentation.
Verify contractor compliance with contractual commissioning obligations.
Participate in SCADA integration for PV/BESS systems.
Validate Power Plant Controller (PPC) and EMS functionality, including grid compliance tests.
Oversee PCS installation and perform cold and hot commissioning activities, including energization, functional checks, and performance validation.
Ensure all deliverables and templates related to commissioning and testing are obtained from contractors and third-party testers.
Prepare and maintain commissioning test procedures and reports.
Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, IEC, NEC/NESC, and local codes.
Conduct site walkdowns and inspections (e.g., Golden Rows, First Article Inspections, etc.).
Monitor energy profiles and reporting to ensure projects meet contractual energy requirements (capacity, round-trip efficiency, etc.).
Analyze test results and implement corrective action when deviation occurs.
Liaise with construction managers and general contractors for planning and execution of commissioning activities.
Provide internal and external progress reporting during the commissioning phase.
Collaborate with preconstruction teams to review design documents and optimize system sequencing.
