Position Overview:
Seylone is actively seeking a very experienced Interior Drilling / Limited Access Drill Rig Operator to join our Geotechnical and Environmental Division. This role requires someone with extensive hands-on experience operating drill rigs in confined interior spaces. The ideal candidate is someone who knows how to anticipate challenges, adapt quickly, and work with precision in high-stakes environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure meticulous site setup and preparation to uphold Seylone's safety and operational excellence standards.
  • Extensive experience and proven track record in geotechnical drilling and soil sampling.
  • Independently operate limited access drill rigs (Acker rig) in tight interior locations such as basements, crawl spaces, mechanical rooms, and occupied buildings.
  • Perform geotechnical borings, core sampling, and related drilling techniques with minimal oversight.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of drilling techniques, equipment maintenance, and soil sample collection.
  • Installation of monitoring wells and geotechnical instrumentation.
  • Accurate documentation of drilling activities, adhering to industry and regulatory standards.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret site plans, geotechnical reports, and project specifications.
  • Navigate logistical constraints and ensure safe, clean, and efficient drilling operations.
  • Collaborate with engineers, clients, and project managers to achieve scope and quality objectives.
  • Exceptional mechanical aptitude for equipment troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • Superior communication skills and the ability to integrate effectively into multidisciplinary project teams.
  • A steadfast commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance.
  • Physical ability to work in diverse interior and outdoor environments and demanding conditions.
  • Relevant certifications or licenses related to drilling operations are highly desirable.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in geotechnical drilling, with a strong emphasis on interior or restricted access drilling.
  • Proven track record of working in high-density urban environments, sensitive structures, or historical buildings.
  • Must be physically fit and capable of lifting 50+ lbs and working in challenging conditions.
  • Expertise in operating a variety of drilling rigs, including but not limited to the Acker limited access drill rig.
  • Valid driver’s license required; CDL is a strong plus.
  • OSHA 30 certification & 40-Hour HAZWOPER required; additional site safety certifications (SST, Confined Space, TWIC) a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with leading engineering and development firms.
  • Strong commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and regulatory compliance.
  • Excellent mechanical, analytical, and communication skills.
