Visiting Assistant Professor
Position Function:
The Visiting Assistant Professor is under the administrative
supervision of the Department Head in Industrial & Systems
Engineering (ISE) and will serve as a professional faculty member.
Specific activities include teaching, research, service and
advising students in the Industrial Engineering program.
Salary Grade : UC
For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary
ranges are determined by the hiring department.
Department Profile:
The Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering is one of the
eight academic departments in the Bagley College of Engineering.
The Department offers an ABET-accredited bachelor's program in
Industrial Engineering as well as master's and doctoral degrees.
Industrial Engineering offers degree programs via three modes of
delivery: on the Starkville Campus, through the Online Campus and
through the Engineering on the Coast Campus, located in Gautier, MS
(www.bagley.msstate.edu/coast). Current department enrollment
across the three locations is 296 undergraduate students, 63
master's students, and 84 doctoral students. The department is
currently supported by ten tenured/tenure-track faculty, three
teaching-track faculty, one instructor, and four staff. The

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following examples are illustrations of the various types of
duties assigned to this position. The absence of specific

1. Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Industrial
Engineering.
2. Supervise research of graduate students.
3. Write and submit proposals to prospective sponsors.
4. Engage in scholarly activities resulting in journal and
conference papers.
5. Participate in cross-functional research initiatives that
require coordination and collaboration among research groups,
departments and research centers.
6. Establish and maintain knowledge of current sources for research
support.
7. Stay informed of topic areas for which support is
available.
8. Serve as an active member of the technical community and
participate in the activities of professional and/or technical
societies.
9. Maintain contact and rapport with funding agencies and secure
funding for proposed research
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Industrial & Systems Engineering or closely related
field is required. Excellent oral and written communication skills
are required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include teaching experience, a substantial
record of peer-reviewed publications, and demonstrated ability to
secure external funding.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Other qualifications include strong leadership and interpersonal
skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and an
ability to work in a collaborative research environment. Successful
candidates will be appointed to an academic-year position in the
tenure system, with tenure, if appropriate. Successful candidates
are expected to elevate the reputation of MSU through their
professional activities.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
No unusual physical requirements. Requires no heavy lifting, and
nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor
facility.
